Review of Terms of Service
Living in a highly advanced city where everything is run and monitored by AI, and among a people bound by unity, community, and equality, Kim's constant feelings of emptiness and loneliness seem unfounded. Meanwhile, with corporations, and companies running the city, breaking any rule of the UCE, or violating any of the company's Terms of Service was met with immediate penalties and even imprisonment in more serious cases. Starting out as a trainer at the AI company, Kim by chance--or design, rises through the ranks, but despite having been promoted and being a model citizen Kim, and her friend Shan struggle to stay out of trouble as she begins to understand that her psychological traumas may not be unfounded after all.
Terms of Service: Subject to change without notice is a dystopian science fiction novel set in a future civilization where corporations and companies control, and strictly monitor their citizens by use of AI technology. The story depicts a society where the ruling party exercises absolute authority over its citizens. Citizens are denied the freedom of choice in basic matters like; attire, residence, sexual partners and preference, expressions of affection, or gender to promote equality. The author, Dr. Craig W. Stanfill is a computer scientist with a Ph.D. in AI. Besides that, he is an entrepreneur, musician, bicyclist, and family man.
The book was an interesting read. The story is generally fast-paced, and the author easily captivates the reader and maintains suspense, and unpredictability all through. I also enjoyed the unique theme and style; the author fully immerses the reader into a world where people use "we" in place of "I" to suppress selfism, so into detail that it was void of any genderism, I could hardly tell the gender of the characters. The intensity of the theme is incredible. The plot is also very well-structured, and creatively detailed; even the slightest details would later in the story reveal some information.
The author has exceeded the usual level of creativity; he creates a whole different reality with it's unique calendar, and a unique way of life devoid of love, selfism, conflict, and even war. It feels like peeking into another dimension. I also found no errors in grammar or punctuation. I love it. I find nothing to dislike about it.
As such, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars owing to the level of creativity, structure, and artistry the author put into the work. The book is also professionally edited, so I feel that the top rating is well-deserved.
The novel is easily one of the best I've read and is sure to be entertaining to lovers of dystopian fiction, fans of AI, and futuristic technologies. It, however, contains detailed sex scenes, and several instances where characters get heavily intoxicated. The main character also resorts to alcoholism to help her cope with her psychological traumas. I, therefore recommend this book to readers above legal age.
