Review of Terms of Service
REVIEW: ''Terms of service'' by Craig W. Stanfill.
Craig W. Stanfill's "Terms of Service"- Subject to change without notice introduces readers to Kim, the main character who resides in a society where strict regulations govern every aspect of life, including the use of gender-neutral colors such as beige, pale blue, pale yellow, and pale green. What she eats and wears is monitored by house bots. Having a child is also monitored by the hierarchy in that after giving birth and weaning the baby is given out to their mentors a regulation that everyone should adhere to. Kim joined artificial intelligence five years ago a company that trains robots. Despite being part of a society that prizes compliance and strict adherence to rules, Kim yearns for something more. She is unhappy with her monotonous job and the lack of freedom in her life. In this tightly controlled world, even personal choices such as food and entertainment options are restricted and subject to scrutiny. Kim's dissatisfaction with her life only grows when she encounters Kimberley, and her best friend Shan whose presence aggravate her feelings of frustration and denial.
As Kim struggles to find a way to break free from her constricting environment, she is caught between helping a friend out or turning a blind eye to help herself. Kim's world is ruled through hierarchy by artificial intelligence and robots. I wouldn't admire the world even for a second because i cant imagine a world controlled by technology with severe punishment to those who break the rules.
Stanfill's novel ''Terms of Service'' is a narrative that invokes a world of total submission. The novel explores themes of conformity, control, and personal freedom. A world where you are not to think for yourself but rather do what you are told. The narrative is well-written and engaging, with relatable characters that readers will love and admire. This is a book that will leave readers questioning the role of rules and regulations in society and the importance of personal independence.
What i loved about the novel is the fact that it is fictional, providing its readers with a glimpse into a probable future. A world that includes robots and numerous facets of virtual reality is one of the most fascinating things to read about. The author does an excellent job of highlighting the importance of human oversight in technology. The machines being in control led to a world free of corruption and minimal crime. The novel is well edited I appreciate how creative the author is in using pronouns in this book. The days are also named in an entertaining way that differs from our own. The role of leadership in this world is demonstrated by the Hierarchy. The book is far from dull, as there is always something to keep the reader engaged. It provides a glimpse into a world that is wrestling with the rise of artificial intelligence. It also sheds light on the positive and negatives of a society heavily influenced by technology.
There is nothing to dislike in this novel. It keeps the reader glued to the book wanting more and more. I admired Kim as a character and how she stood up for herself and what she believed in. I honestly loved the novel and i am pleased to rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It's a great book.
I highly recommend this book to science fiction lovers and those who admire the use of artificial intelligence to solve human problems and ease work. It is a great read for both young teens and adults that love fictional books.
