Review of Terms of Service
Kim works for the Artificial Intelligence Company. Her job is to train the AIs to interface with human beings. Her goal has always been to work with advanced-level AI. The AIs provide the Terms of Service, to which everyone in the metropolis must adhere strictly or bear the consequences. The AI and the Heirachy govern every aspect of the lives of all citizens in this metropolis. In this world, AI is the strong hand of total obedience and compliance, with an extra-tight grip on everyone. Terms can be changed whenever they deem fit. Free will is nonexistent. The words used in communication are filtered, and certain words are banned. The sheer robotic behavior was amusing and sad. Craig W. Stanfill, in his genius, brings in so many elements affecting society in real time. He gave his readers a guide at the beginning of the book to help clear any confusion that some aspects of the book may cause due to its unconventionality.
Through Kim's perspective, we see firsthand how this dystopian world operates. The AI's inhumane control of the people. Various penalties are issued for even the most basic infractions. Her fridge decides what she eats. If she finds her meal undesirable, wasting it is not an option. Her wardrobe and home decor are raging beige colors, which she dislikes but must comply with. Everyone has a gender-neutral name. They have to rely on the system to match them with whoever they could be intimate with, and they must be open about the partners the system matches them with, too, or else dire consequences follow. Multiple AIs control every detail of their lives for different purposes and levels.
While the book depicts the gravity of the AI rise, it is also laced with some wit and humor. Kim's struggles with her fridge and houseboat were utterly hilarious. Kimberly's hilarious outfit during the Purple Day celebration and the jokes Kim's friends shared were delightful. Everything is made possible with voice commands and simulations. It all seemed magical. Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice is a whole world of its own, and I was swept up in that world. Despite the projection of a perfect world, leaders are typically corrupt and favor whomever they please.
Craig W. Stanfill wrote an outstanding book. The writing style employed was easy and clear. It provides a wide-eyed insight into our future. Kim and everyone else in this world live with the vivid knowledge of being watched daily as a way of life. As part of the regulation, they have selected outfits and color codes every week. The tasteless beige color fits perfectly with the blandness of everything. I liked how Kim tried her best not to stand out, yet she always managed to. One of the things I also enjoyed was Kim and Kimberly's relationship, its various stages, and the troubles that followed. It was wholesome and natural. Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice is one of my best books yet. I can point out nothing I disliked about this book because I loved everything about it. The editing was exceptionally well done. I found no errors whatsoever.
I have been interested in the rise of AI for a while now, and reading Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice boosted my interest and knowledge. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. This is a book that can do no wrong from my experience. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy and technological advancement. Also, if you are interested in AI, virtual reality, and all that fun stuff, this book is for you.
