The Claidi Journals (series) by Tanith Lee

Post by Mango47 »

This is a great fantasy series for young girls 10 and up, I didn't put this in the children's books forum because as the series continues it becomes more and more mature to that of maybe high school level. The protagonist Claidi spends her days as a servant/slave to a young princess and writes in a journal telling the reader about her life. Claidi and everyone else in her community lives in a fortress in the middle of a desert they call "the waste." All around there is nothing to be seen for miles and miles until one day a mysterious craft appears in the sky, so they shoot is down and capture a beautiful prince. Claidi eventually finds herself escaping with the prince. A lot of weird crazy things happen and you really get to find out who the characters are and what drives them. Tanith Lee paints a beautiful fantasy landscape, with unique creatures, flora, fauna, people, and cultures. Nothing is as it seems in this book and probably the most unpredictable book series I've ever read. This book will shock you many times before it ends, and starts out fast and action packed but gets deeper and more intriguing as things are revealed.
