The We are Voulhire: A new Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy medieval introductory novel. Arriving at the prosperous land called Voulhire, Galen Bray, a man raised in the adversities of continuous wars in his homeland, begins a new life as the blacksmith-to-be in the city of Magnum Caelum as his uncle’s heir. Knowing only of war and survival, Galen comes across politics and magic as well as generosity and kindness, things unheard of in his upbringing, and comes to love and cherish his newly found life.

The captivating descriptions of the land and people of Voulhire, as presented by the author, introduce vividly a vast and complex country with customs and history, the details of which are fully presented. The author successfully takes the reader to a trip, describing every step, every corner in the eyes of the main character who discovers his new city and surroundings with aw and curiosity.

This brief novel is divided in chapters with different narrators, depending on which city the progress is happening in. This technique offers variety of information and presents the insight of each one respectively. The political plays of the capital are narrated by the king and his generals, the history of the city of Hillport by it’s newly appointed lord and his family members and a big portion of Voulhire’s country side and wonders by the main character Galen Bray.

If you enjoy the writing of the likes of Philip Pullman with the detailed descriptions of J.K.Rowling, this amazing introduction of another world, one of magic and war is totally for you. The natration pulls its reader in a vortex of actions and reactions that will leave you breathless and you will find your soul relaxing when the characters are safe at home.

Overall, the book was brilliantly explanatory . I feel like i really know the basics of the world surrounding the characters. The author had me on edge for its continuance. I look forward for the rest of the series to unravel. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars with no regrets.
