Voulhire, a country, or better yet, an empire, had one king but many different cities. King Wilhelm, not being able to rule all cities at once, delegated responsibilities mainly to members of the judiciary. Each city had their own army, economics, and norms. There were constant power struggles between leaders and some of them abused their positions. Galen, one from another land, the Land of the Princes, set sail to Voulhire to lay hold on his inheritance left for him by his uncle whom he never met. It was like entering a new world with a whole new culture of wars and magic. Rowan, the executor of his uncle’s estate stood close by him as he showed him around Voulhire. Will he survive?

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, is a great read. The writing style epitomizes an author with great imagination. It was very descriptive which brings to book to life. While reading, Matthew Tysz made me feel like I was there in Voulhire. The dramatic nature of the book had many different scenes which were carefully organized. They were so organized that even though they did not flow into each other, I was still able to follow the story line.

I liked Eldus Alderman, he was very humble and treated the people well. His interest was to rebuild Hillport through the people. Unfortunately, his emphasis on the people over reinforcement of borders led to his early demise. He was cut off by Riva Rohavi. The banishing of Meldorath due to his abuse of power, and the people’s speculation as to whether he was dead or alive, adds mystery to the story. His re-appearance at the end makes it even more intriguing and builds on the suspense that tantalizes the reader’s appetite for more.

I was expecting a little more magic, and I think that there could have been more display of good magic that fights the bad magic. That was my only dissatisfaction with the book and maybe it will come in the next sequel.

I found no errors. This suggest that this book was carefully edited and formatted to enhance the reading experience. I give it a 5 out of 5 star and I would recommend it for a general audience. It should also be interesting for those who love adventure and suspense. I think that this story is suited for the big screen.
