In the Land of Princes, dangers lurk in every corner, as the civil war rages on. Here, the chance of a new life has reached Galen Bray. He is going to the Kingdom of Voulhire.

The Kingdom of Voulhire is a fast-developing country full of wealth, culture, and technology. As Galen arrives in Magnum Caelum, a small town in Voulhire, he is to take over the Onita Steel business from his recently diseased great-uncle. As he juggles the task of figuring out how to use the forge, the lord of a town not far away, juggles with his own newly appointed responsibilities.

Lord Eldus of Hillport, a former judge, was appointed the new lord of Hillport by the King of Voulhire himself. His job is to get the town back on its feet after tragedy struck twice over the course of six months.
But darkness hides in every corner of this kingdom, for the King of Voulhire has his secrets, and these secrets may just find their way out.

I’m giving the book 4/4 stars, as I really enjoyed it, and it had some very interesting storytelling. It was paced in a - for me - very comfortable way, and had lots of deeper plot and mystery, which got me hooked very early on. There’s a lot of humour, which I love, as well as sarcasm and very realistically written familial teasing.

In contrast to a lot of the fantasy books that I have read, this one had quite the modern technological advancements, which I found really interesting to see combined with the magic system. And while on the subject of magic: wow! I absolutely loved the way magic works in this world!

On top of an awesome magic system, and the rarity of somewhat modern technology, this book starts out by introducing readers to the Kingdom of Voulhire with a map, which - in my opinion - every fantasy book should have, honestly. The main cast is then introduced through a character list, AND there’s a glossary at the very back of the book, which has a few pronunciation guides! That is one of the best things ever!

I found no typos/grammatical mistakes, which shows absolutely incredible editing. Amazing work! However, one thing that did bring this book down a bit for me, was the constantly changing point if view, and the sometimes very long chapters. For this reason, I do give the book 4/5, because – though amazing – that did annoy me a bit while reading.

All in all: I would absolutely recommend this book to fans of fantasy, particularly if you enjoy very in-depth worldbuilding with lots of humour and mystery.
