Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Kings are all alike. Or, I could just state that leaders have a set of characteristics that they consistently display. The appropriate location for this observation is shared by Matthew Tysz, the author of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. Like his predecessors, king Wilhelm Arcolo must preserve the nation's unity. King Wilhelm must deceive his subjects in order to carry out this task. The king feels that maintaining national unity requires secrecy. King Wilhelm encounters opposition, just like every other king. Lord Meldorath, a formidable mage and former general, is a serious threat. Also, a former pal of the monarch. Riva Rohavi is also putting a lot of effort into overthrowing the king and the whole kingdom. Even worse, the king's leadership style is criticized by the chancellor of the Mianora council, a powerful council that checks the king's authority.
Galen is a kind young man who has spent practically his entire life in the kingdom of the princes, a land devastated by war. Rowan, his uncle's executor, is sent to find him and bring him to Voulhire. Galen's uncle has become a prosperous blacksmith in the town of Magnum Caelum. He made a fortune that his nephew was going to inherit after his death.
I appreciate the high level of diversity of activities in Voulhire. It made the story realistic. There were varied products produced in the different regions of the country. Magnum Caelum is a home for blacksmiths. Iseron cigar producers. Hillport is a place where most people are fishermen. A mining town called Alcovia. Diversity doesn't end there. Different physical features form part of the geographical setting of the story. The features include oceans, islands, coastlines, plains, highlands, forested hills, and woodlands.
Rowan, the executor of Galen's uncle, was my favorite character. He seemed stylish, amusing, and friendly. The man can also flirt with any girl. Had the quality that would attract many people to friendship. Something very special about him was his readiness to do more than the services he was supposed to offer. Galen thinks it's unbelievable how Rowan provides extra support beyond the job that he was paid to do. To him, it was more than kindness; it was a fear that Rowan had reasons to do so. However, Rowan assures the boy that he is providing service and that the amount paid was worth it. Where does one find such people in today's world, where trust is a rare gem?
I couldn't help but notice the dialogue in the book. Every time I let myself get absorbed in the reading, they caught my attention. This resulted from the author's successful use of tension in the dialogue. One should not be less inclined to understand words just because they are strange. At the end of the book, there is a lengthy list of these terms, along with definitions provided by the author. Additionally, it has reduced the amount of reading material that some people might consider unimportant. Nevertheless, allowing those who are interested to learn the meanings.
This was an exciting book. I did not find anything negative about it. A rating of 5 out of 5 stars fits We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. The rating is justified by the author's ability to ensure that the book contains qualities that make it an exciting read. The story has a lot of suspense. The chapters are well organized. The intermittent flow of the story has been coordinated to bring out a fascinating climax. Another good quality is the author's ability to entertain and educate the audience. Since I did not notice any actual errors, I conclude that the book was exceptionally edited.
Reading We are voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies can make you feel right at home if you enjoy thrilling and enchanted tales. The main characters of the novel are mages who possess magic and use it to rule over and sway others. Additionally, there is the notion of a magical realm called Caromentis.
