Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, is a well-conceived fantasy story that presents both philosophical musings and exciting adventures. The book immerses readers in a world where the natural and supernatural coexist and explores the ongoing battle between good and evil. The characters are well-developed, making it easy for readers to empathize with them. This first instalment of the series has a significant impact on society, with inspiring themes such as poetry, art, and ethics. It also delves into important topics such as wealth, culture, technology, politics, education, language, and law. Ultimately, the book tells a tale of power and revenge that will keep readers engaged until the very end.
The protagonist of the story, Galen Bray, is a relatable character with whom readers can easily empathize. His journey is a classic coming-of-age tale, as he struggles to find his true identity and place in the world. In a world full of dubious characters, Galen's innocence and cautious ambition are a refreshing change. However, upon migrating to the Kingdom of Voulhire, Galen finds it difficult to adjust to the unique surroundings, having mostly focused on survival in his past experiences. The secondary characters, particularly the enigmatic mage, Meldorath, are equally captivating, with his immense power hinted at without revealing too much. Galen's companion, Rowan, is also a compelling character who explores Voulhire alongside Galen, and their friendship blossoms beautifully throughout the story.
The book was a pleasure to read, and I particularly appreciated the inclusion of a map in the first chapter. The map helped readers understand and visualize the geography of the book, making it easy to follow the characters' movements and locations. The characters themselves were realistically portrayed, and the author did an excellent job of bringing them to life. The main character, in particular, was relatable and easy to empathize with, as the story was told from his perspective. The character's emotions and thoughts felt authentic and familiar, making them easy to connect with. The author's descriptive writing style was also impressive, making the story feel believable and engaging. The text was descriptive enough to stimulate the reader's imagination, allowing them to immerse themselves in the story and feel like they were experiencing the events firsthand.
There isn't anything I disliked about the book; in fact, I found it to be a thrilling and engaging read. The author did an excellent job of portraying various characteristics in a complimentary way. The introduction of magic and magicians was skillfully done, adding a modern twist to the medieval setting. The book offered a unique and unforgettable reading experience, with captivating elements and intricately woven scenes that kept me hooked throughout.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars, as the concept is both original and magnificent. The author's writing style is impressive, with expertly blended metaphors, similes, and adjectives that add depth and nuance to the story. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy novels with elements of adventure, magic, and philosophical themes.
