We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Mathew Tysz started by portraying how magic plays a significant role in creating fear in the people of Voulhire and its infinite possibilities beyond the reach of ordinary men. The strength of magic is depicted in how a former General of the Voulhirian Southern Army, Dalehei Meldorath, fought against the soldiers of the coastal village of Hillport singlehandedly, and overthrew Lord Orlin, Lord of Hillport, for the crimes he was accused of.

The story revolves around a boy named Galen Bray, an immigrant from the Land of Princes, who traveled into Voulhire to inherit the forge business of his dead uncle. Because being a blacksmith was way beyond his knowledge, he sought help from his uncle's financial executor, Rowan, to expedite his understanding of how to operate the forge and revive his uncle's abandoned business. To be successful, they had to journey through different places in Voulhire to find the needed unique raw materials to forge fine weapons. In their journey, Galen Bray and Rowan met interesting characters from different walks of life, from ordinary folks to soldiers, to mages and rebels, and to high priests, which they relate to how the kingdom of Voulhire's politics, religion, and culture put into imaginative form.

The book not only concentrates on Galen Bray's perspective but also the different perspectives of other significant characters (Meldorath, King Wilhelm, Lord Eldus, Chancellor Midius, and others) in which they molded, revealed, and portrayed the in-depth description of the world of Voulhire in medieval times setting and how their roles intertwined with the protagonist.

Will Galen Bray be able to find the needed raw materials for his forge and be able to master the works of being a blacksmith even with the inevitable rise of conflict between the cities of Voulhire? How can a lowly, aspiring, and ordinary blacksmith such as Galen Bray take part in the vast inevitable conflict between evil magic and the strength of kingdoms? These are the questions that kept me hooked while I read this story and made me wanting for more as the story ended with an intriguing cliffhanger.

The book is very fun to read as how the author develops world-building and character-building. The book is very well written and how the author used sentences and paragraphs so creatively that will captivate a reader's attention. I enjoyed reading the book about how the pacing of each character's perspective develops and most especially the imaginative creation of the capabilities of magic and the explanation of how magic was being conjured linking to an unworldly universe of Caromentis.

I found nothing to dislike about the book thus I rated this five out of five stars. I spotted little to no errors as this book was edited so professionally. There is no boring moment for me as each chapter contained interesting internal and external conflicts of each focused character. I am so eager to get my hands on the other sequel books of We Are Voulhire.

I highly recommend this book, especially to readers who are into fantasy worlds in the Middle age and how magic affects not only the world and kingdoms but also in the characters' lives.
