Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a scintillating book with all the interesting thrills and magic. Galen Bray moves to Voulhire to take over his uncle's estate who cut ties with his family long ago. Galen hoped to live a peaceful life in that country, but reality hit immediately. He learned about many horrifying events in that prosperous country. The powerful Emperor of Lullabies knew his sons were conspiring to gain the kingship of his country. The wise king gave them islands and declared his sons kings of these lands. Little did the sons know that it was a gambit to make them declare war against each other. Two former lords did so much damage to Hillport that nothing could restore its former fame. Eldus Alderman, newly appointed lord and former judge sent to Hillport by king Wilhelm, had to take drastic measures if he wanted to change the situation. You're about to embark on a fascinating adventure. It is an exciting story to read and learn for yourself if the plans work.
I liked that justice and honesty poured out of the book. Bringing the perpetrators to justice was easy in Voulhire, regardless of their status or fame. Also, it was surprising how that mysterious, beautiful world contained so much animosity and rivalry. It felt like seeing the same people in a parallel world; Rowan was my neighbor, always helping me out with advice, in kings’ actions I saw perverted political figures, killed children reminded me of innocent child trafficking. It was all about our world, but in a different color scheme.
Although the chapters alternated between events and time, I enjoyed the book. Many readers know that authors sometimes mention one thing before writing about it later. This implemented style sparked my interest in finding out what happened to the heroes described in previous chapters. As I read, the metaphors and similes included in the narrative and dialogue appealed to me the most. The author's straightforward descriptions and distinctive characters like Rowan made the book unforgettable.
There is nothing to hate about We are Voulhire by Matthew Tysz. It was like a glimpse into our lives in the mirror. Most people know that we have two choices in life: either we are top dogs or we are underdogs. The author elaborates further, pointing out that the former spend a lot of time looking over their shoulders daily.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is a well-written and exceptionally well-edited book. I enjoyed the descriptions of the characters’ emotions, gestures, and mimics. They helped me read their minds and intentions. I could peek into their hearts and predict their next actions.
Readers who appreciate fantasy will like this book for its wonderful world and charismatic characters. There are many scenes of battles and light humor, which will attract action and humor fans. Those who like to learn about the harsh world with humor will also find this book useful.
