Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, belongs to the "We Are Voulhire" series. This novel delves into the realm of fantasy as it explores the relentless pursuit of power and the extreme measures taken to achieve it. It also highlights the profound significance of unity and the painful repercussions of betrayal. Through a captivating blend of action, adventure, science, magic, and friendship, the story unravels the intricate nature of magic and its origins in different realms.
The narrative of the book unfolds from multiple perspectives, yet its central focus rests on the character of Galen. Born and raised in a war-torn land governed by the Princes, Galen's life takes an unexpected turn when he is suddenly removed from the unpredictable existence that defines his homeland. Unravelling the truth behind his orchestrated escape, orchestrated by an uncle he will never have the chance to meet, Galen endeavours to prove himself worthy of the legacy his uncle left behind. As Galen embarks on a journey to acquire knowledge and skills that would honour his uncle's memory, he stumbles upon hidden truths that many individuals wish to conceal. These revelations shed light on the deceptive nature of Voulhire, challenging its outward appearance. Meanwhile, Wilhelm, the King of Voulhire, bears the weighty responsibility of safeguarding his people. Faced with Lord Meldorath's disruptive agenda, accompanied by a group of Rohavi terrorists, Wilhelm must take all necessary measures to ensure that evil does not triumph.
I have developed a deep affection for this novel, and I eagerly anticipate reading the next installment in the series. The author's style exhibits a remarkable combination of eloquence and simplicity, which I found truly captivating. From the very beginning, the introductory chapters piqued my curiosity, but as I delved deeper, I discovered that there was much more to love. One aspect that particularly fascinated me was how the narrative shifted to different points of view, creating a sense of anticipation and enhancing the flow of descriptions. The author skillfully captured my interest from the outset, assuring me that this would be a book I would thoroughly enjoy. The exploration of power struggles, whether within a war-stricken land or through the subtle undermining of a king's authority, resonated deeply with me. Galen, the protagonist, serves as a great source of inspiration. His journey from being a survivor of war to achieving success and stability, such as owning a house and a business, embodies the classic "grass to grace" narrative. I admired his unwavering determination to work hard and prove himself worthy of his newfound life. His commitment to following his late uncle's advice to remain grounded while setting his sights on the stars struck a chord with me. It is the guidance I aspire to follow in my own life.
I found nothing to dislike about the book; every aspect was thoroughly enjoyable. The plot demonstrated meticulous planning, and although I may be somewhat partial due to it being my favourite genre, I can confidently assert that the book was far from dull. The narrative captured my heart, leaving me eagerly anticipating the forthcoming instalment in the series.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to its sheer brilliance. The inclusion of multiple characters sharing their individual experiences was a remarkable concept. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to individuals who have an interest in science, fantasy, magic, adventure, found families, power struggles, and essentially anyone seeking an engaging and captivating read. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
