Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The book is science fiction about a kingdom called Voulhire, the land of magic. From the onset, a young man escaping from a civil war in his nation, the Land of the Princes, luckily catches a ship to Magnum Caelum, a town in Voulhire. Galen Bray, which came to be his name, is our main character. As much as the story begins to unravel, so does Galen’s life in Voulhire. Just before he died, Galen’s uncle, Onita, named Galen as the heir to his steel business. In the meantime, Voulhire’s ruler, King Wilhem, just appointed a former judge, Eldus Alderman, as the new Lord of Hillport, a town in Voulhire that was previously ruled by cruel lords. Now, the book is a series, and this is its first part.
I found the book to be incredibly interesting and captivating. The author uses both the first point of narration and the third point of narration alternately through chapters. Such a style gives readers more details of the story from different perspectives. It also allows other characters, apart from the main character, to be explored more. The plot of the book is unpredictable, which makes it a lot more intriguing. This is exhibited through the use of character names for chapters, even though this makes the story easier to follow. Each time I turned to a new chapter, I did so with so much excitement and wonder: what will become of Lord Eldus now? Who is Riva Rohavi? Throughout the story, the author wittily explores politics, aggression, fantasy, magic, and sci-fi. Not only is magic illustrated in an intriguing manner, but also in an informative way. The characters are well developed and uniquely introduced in a captivating manner.
To conclude, the author creatively developed a world of Voulhire with an imaginative and yet reasonable map. The civilization is as real as it can get. Parents are overly protective of their kids after a bad experience, as they can be. Like every country that is ruled through politics, there is opposition. Religion is also fairly expressed. This book is professionally edited, as I did not find any grammar mistakes. Moreover, the book comes with a reference guide which helps in explaining some of the terms that can be confusing for new readers. I believe the main audience for this series is people who like imaginative writing, magic, and fictitious stories. With that being said, I rate it 5 out of 5.
