We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz presents a captivating blend of sci-fi and fantasy as it delves into the lives of Galen and Lord Eldus. Galen, determined to resurrect his late uncle's forgotten forge, becomes entangled in the aftermath of the devastating war of the princes that has plagued the land since his tender age. Following his uncle's execution, Galen unexpectedly inherits an estate and a modest fortune in gold at Magnum Caelum. Within the kingdom of Voulhire, under the rule of King Wilhelm Arcolo, lies the enchanting town of Hillport. Tragically, Hillport endures the loss of its two rulers within a shockingly brief period. In response, King Wilhelm appoints Lord Eldus to the pivotal task of rebuilding and revitalizing Hillport. Previously, the town had suffered under the oppressive reign of Lord Orlin, a figure tainted by scandalous accusations. The notorious Lord meets his fate at the hands of Medorath, a captain turned magician who seizes control of Hillport, ruling with an iron grip empowered by his magical abilities. However, Meldorath's rule plunges Hillport into a maelstrom of chaos and corruption. Determined to restore order, King Wilhelm commands his soldiers to apprehend Meldorath and bring him to justice. Speculation shrouds the outcome, with some claiming Meldorath perished during his journey to face trial, while others believe he cunningly vanished into the shadows. The truth of his whereabouts remains a perplexing enigma. Amidst the turbulent circumstances, Lord Eldus embarks on his arduous mission to reconstruct Hillport, breathing life back into its war-torn streets. Simultaneously, Galen relentlessly pursues his quest to rekindle the fires of his uncle's forge. The fate of Galen's ambitious endeavor and Lord Eldus' valiant efforts to transform Hillport into a thriving city teeming with prosperity are intricately woven throughout the pages of this mesmerizing tale. Unraveling these mysteries awaits those who embark on this unforgettable journey.

This mesmerizing book transports readers to an extraordinary realm where magic intertwines with a cast of multi-dimensional characters, their complexities blending seamlessly with their vulnerabilities and unwavering courage. The author's commendable talent lies in their meticulous depiction of Voulhire, a nation that comes alive both in physicality and metaphor. The inclusion of a detailed map at the book's outset served as an invaluable guide, enhancing my comprehension of the kingdom's intricate landscapes. Through expert storytelling, the author deftly reveals the nation's structure, history, culture, and profound connection to the enchanting world of Caromentis, captivating readers along the way.

As the first installment in a series, the novel unequivocally succeeds in fulfilling its intended purpose, leaving me eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Among the vivid array of characters, Galen Bray stands out as my personal favorite. His journey in Voulhire is one of transformation, as he becomes an indispensable pillar for the nation while maintaining a relatable innocence and cautious ambition. His portrayal as a protagonist is refreshingly authentic. Moreover, a standout moment in the book is the breathtaking introduction of Voulhire, depicted through the mesmerizing feast of human hands. The imagery evokes a vivid tapestry, immersing readers in a world of grandeur where pomp, pageantry, and opulence signify the kingdom's emergence into a golden age.

However, I believe the book would have greatly benefited from a more coherent organization with well-defined chapters. Additionally, I found the pacing to be rather sluggish, which somewhat hindered my reading experience. Nonetheless, I must commend the exceptional editing of this novel, as I could not detect a single error throughout the entire text. Based on this, I wholeheartedly award We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

The author exhibits an extraordinary level of imagination in crafting a captivating fantasy world infused with intricate magical elements. The storyline kept me thoroughly engaged, and I was truly fascinated by its intricacies. I recommend this book to avid readers of the fantasy genre who crave fast-paced, action-packed narratives. Furthermore, linguists and enthusiasts of mysticism, as well as those who appreciate multi-part series and the allure of magic, will find ample opportunities for enlightenment within the pages of this novel.
