Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is nothing short of a phenomenal story. Galen Bray, who is the main character of this story, finds himself in possession of an inheritance left to him by his generous great-uncle. This caused him to journey away from home to Magnum Caelum, a town located in Voulhire that hosted his new inheritance. He had spent all his life in the Land of Princes, where he lived in perpetual fear of a seemingly never-ending war. In Magnum Caelum, he had a new life ahead of him, and he followed in the steps of his great-uncle by learning the craft and artistry of a blacksmith.
In Voulhire, King Wilhelm was disturbed by the atrocities and issues emanating from one of his towns, Hillport. Hillport was severely disturbed and made chaotic by Lord Melodrath and Lord Orlin. Lord Melodrath was a great sorcerer who used dark magic to inflict pain and ills on people, following the path charted by Lord Orlin. King Wilhelm sent Lord Eldus, whom he trusted, to salvage the town and bring it to glory. Would the King be able to get rid of these evil lords? How did Lord Eldus turn this situation around? How does this connect to Galen Bray, the blacksmith? Find these answers as you read this interesting book.
The book was great to read; the suspense was employed skillfully, drowning the reader in its depths. The book was well descriptive, helping its images take shape in one's mind so that they come alive. I could picture the chaos in Hillport when the sorcerer arrived, with people running for their lives. At the time I was reading it, it was scary, but now that I imagine it, it is almost funny. You'd find amazing twists and turns and find the plot a good one. I also enjoyed the humility of the king; it goes to show that one can be powerful and still remain humble.
The nature of the story captures so many dark realities that it can leave a reader with a very vivid imagination temporarily fazed with fright. Also, there seem to be some characters unnecessarily introduced as such that could cloud coherence. There were some characters that I forgot about by the time I was done reading.
My rating for this book is 5 out of 5 stars. The book was exceptionally edited, as I could not find any errors. I did not find the slight issues aforementioned sufficient to deduct a star from this work of art. I remember all the significant characters and the roles that they played, and that is what is most important to me. The imagination behind the story is definitely genius.
I recommend this book to lovers of fantasy and magic. You'd definitely be intrigued by this book. It is engaging, and anyone who wants to take an imaginative trip would find this book a worthy vehicle.
