Terms of Service: Subject to change without notice is a fictional work by Craig W. Stanfill that describes the future correlation between humans and AI and also its aftermath.
The book tells us about Kim, who is a grown adult from a distant future where revealing one's gender is prohibited and counts as an act of violation. For this reason, everyone is obliged to wear the same fashionable dress; otherwise, the AI will issue suspension notices regarding social facilities and services.
Kim is good at following the rules, and as an employee of the artificial company, she never intends to break any. But things became hectic when she met Shan, her former classmate. After a long while, they decided to meet up to go on a road trip, which didn’t go as planned. Using this as leverage, the company forces Kim to do something that she is not willing to do. As chaotic as it seems, the story continues, and Kim tries to sort out the dilemma of whether she will succeed or not.
The author deserves to be praised for using some unique terms; he described the days as oneday to sevenday. Also, he used the terms innies and outies to describe the gender, which is quite unique. The companies were plainly named by their services, and all of them were monitored and observed keenly by artificial intelligence. Although AI played a crucial role in the story, it was not the core content; this is not a book where the AI became rebellious and then the protagonist fought them off to save mankind. He didn’t follow this typical sci-fi pattern to create his own story. Rather than that, he drew a different picture: as civilization ages and invents more sophisticated technology, we tend to change ourselves towards being more robotic and provoke AI neural systems so that they can be misused for personal purposes. The descriptions of virtual reality and artificial intelligence functionality were indeed smooth.
The book lacks any kind of profanity, but it does contain an intense amount of erotica. Also, the abusive amount of drugs used during intimacy is quite an eyesore to me. To copulate, drugs are a must, which seemed kind of absurd and irrelevant. The book is recommended for adults only.
Terms of Service: Subject to change without notice does not have any grammatical errors or any kind of mistake whatsoever that can be unpleasant while reading. Though the book has a huge amount of sci-fi terms, it is well proofread, which made the reading even more fun. The conclusion indicates that there is a sequel too. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
