We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is the first book of a thrilling, nail-biting series written by Matthew Tysz. It takes place in a creative, captivating universe where magic, channeled from the realm of sorcery, is widely practiced and used by those with both good and bad intentions. The setting is the kingdom of Voulhire, a prosperous and secure place full of opportunities and riches. It is also where the protagonist, Galen, travels from the Land of Princes, a parallel, war-torn kingdom of death and war. Galen receives refuge papers from his mysterious great uncle to travel to Voulhire to inherit his wealth, house, and blacksmith business. Galen suddenly finds himself in a new life of safety, wealth, and happiness (or so it seems).

The author also frequently pivots between several other exciting plots. Hillport, a region of Voulhire, has elected a new lord to lead them. The previous leaders were cruel and caused significant harm to the area. However, the new lord is determined to promote healing and growth within the community. He must win the trust of a wary society of modest fishermen while also grappling with the potential dangers posed by maleficent forces of evil that once terrorized the kingdom. Meldorath, a dangerous wizard (referred to as a mage) who used his position as lord to conduct morbid experiments on innocent people in an attempt to connect with the magical realm, was banished to an isolated prison, but his presence still looms over the town. The Riva Rohavi, a group dedicated to death and associated with Meldorath, builds an army of murderers and powerful supernaturals to conduct what could be one of their bloodiest, most violent raids of Hillport yet.

The plot and structure of the story are perfectly written and organized to create a soul-stirring sequence of events. Each of these plots is very interesting and easy to follow. The author’s method of progressive character development in the story and his timing to reveal certain traits about the character and plot contribute to the book’s pacing and create a sense of excitement. One of the best things about We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is how raw and authentic the feelings and dialogue of the characters sound. Tysz creates very illustrative, emotional characters that feel in fresh, powerful ways, both internally and externally.

While I have very little criticism for We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, I want to mention that the intricate details of the story require attention to keep up with the storyline. The story is, obviously, fast-paced as it is a thriller novel. However, readers should acknowledge that this is a very dense text where you ensure you’re following every detail. Tysz also includes an index with an explanation of the vocabulary he created, which solves a large portion of this problem.

We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies deserves 5 out of 5 stars and 4 out of 4 stars! Tysz wrote a perfect novel about war, emotion, and finding hope when all odds are against you. The story is perfectly edited, timed, and carried out. Tysz also used internal and external character traits that are also easy to identify with because their emotions seem authentic. It’s a captivating, through-provoking thriller that I recommend to anyone looking for a new fantasy or action series that is both exciting and inspiring.

Matthew Tysz did wonders in this book. The way he conferred up this fantasy story still amazes me. Voulhire sounds both ordinary and extraordinary. I just liked this book's plot. Great review.
