After a tragedy occurs, Gideon Spencer goes into hiding and quits his job as a ranger. After two years off the grid, he is hired as a company marshal when he approaches the Alliance management due to his financial status. The Alliance company controls the mining operations on Mars.

An explosion collapses the new mine shafts, and Gideon suspects that the entire incident was deliberate. After some investigation conducted inside the collapsed tunnels, an ancient relic is discovered. The object is called "the Cube," and Gideon is able to uncover a secret hidden deep within it. This leads him to master the four elements and train with the Knights Paladin at the Xulima Empire. He will need to use this power under the guidance of the Light of Dahl to defeat the Emperor and his dark forces. Can he succeed in this quest and survive despite the odds against him? Find out by reading Gideon's Cube, The Chronicles of Gideon Spencer by Michael E. Morgan.

This book had some positive aspects. The characters were well-rounded and properly written. My favorite character is Menra, the Grand Lama. He did his best to ensure his duties as high priest were diligently fulfilled. He was a great teacher to Gideon, and he ensured that the latter was well-equipped to fulfill his destiny. Menra stood by his faith till the end and even battled the Emperor's forces to maintain balance in the universe. His stern but caring nature is a fitting example for people to follow.

I think the best and most important part of this book is the epilogue. The author talks about the benefits of technology and the innovations that have been made possible through it. But he repeatedly states that artificial intelligence should be carefully handled because, if allowed to go unchecked, it might end up becoming the dominant species. He ends the book by stressing that technological inventions have done a lot of good in the world so far, but it is essential to consider the risks and implications that their usage may bring.

This book also had some negative aspects. There were a lot of errors, including misspellings, missing punctuation, and a lack of spacing in specific sentences. I believe this is sufficient proof that the book was not professionally edited. Also, the book is generally written from a third-person point of view. But there are sudden switches to a first-person point of view in certain parts, for example, in chapter 10. The author did not give an explanation to indicate the reason for the switches. It was very confusing, and I failed to understand if I was still reading the same book or if the character was having some sort of inner monologue.

As a result of the reasons listed above, I have decided to rate this book four out of five stars. The book was fun to read, and I was able to complete it in one sitting, but the negative aspects are too significant to ignore. I recommend this book to lovers of science fiction and action-packed novels.

Why will the title be Gideon's cube when the cube was an ancient relic. From this review, I think the author of this book should really look into the switching part which was complained in the review. From the review, I do not find anything that will interest me to reading this book.

This novel seems to include elements of both the science fiction and fantasy genres for a story with a lot of action,, so I hope the author does proper proofreading to avoid distractions. Thank you for your great review!

You have provided a comprehensive review highlighting the positives and negatives. I would have to pass this one for the reason you mentioned. It is a task when the reader loses track of the story line in staying connected with the characters
