Terms of service by Craig W. Stanfill is a thrilling sci-fi novel centered in a world where gender, freedom, and personal privacy are non-existent. The protagonist, Kim, was ripped from her modest life and soon finds herself in the thick of a massive operation designed to violently oppress the freedoms of citizens using artificial intelligence. Along the way, Kim discovers unimaginable secrets about the world, her friends, and herself. This beautiful novel of rebellion, adventure, and romance also serves as a cautionary reminder of the dangerous potential of artificial intelligence in today’s world.

The author amazingly depicted a futuristic, dystopian world with an authoritarian government known as the “hierarchy” that uses artificial intelligence to enforce its oppression and control. This new government promises peace, prosperity, and equality but also sacrifices freedom, privacy and individuality. Those who rebel face serious consequences. Using flawless editing and imagery, the author creates a fictional universe that is not extremely descriptive and believable.

Every aspect of this book makes it a pleasure to read! The page-turning suspense, the dramatic plot, and the beautiful imagery that makes you savor every page all form the perfect dystopian novel. Some specific highlights that made this a memorable book are the character development, connotations the author uses, and the strategic structure of the story-line. The author’s wording is especially decisive. The tone is also very dynamic and constantly changing in a way that extremely emphasizes the feelings the author is conveying. In addition, the author is carefully timing the positions of big reveals about the characters to create a sense of suspense and thrill!

There is absolutely nothing to hold against this book! The editing and grammar are perfect, the story-line is a true page-turner, and the character development is emotional and inspiring! The most mysterious thing about this novel is the message conveyed towards the end of the story, which makes the “fictional” universe seem all the more real. I highly recommend Terms of Service to anyone who is looking for an exciting binge-read or a new take on science fiction.

I happily give this book 4 out of 4 stars and 5 out of 5 stars! The overall story-line, characters, and descriptive language are all exceptional. I have no constructive criticism! The story is exceedingly well-written and perfectly paced, with an unexpected, provoking twist in the end.
