Everyone loves a little fantasy once in a while and Tysz didn't just write a fantasy book; he delivered an outstanding one. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an impressive fantasy novel that delves into the enchanting kingdom of Voulhire.

The story begins with a joyous and colorful event taking place in the capital of Voulhire, Soulhire, allowing the reader to glimpse the united and happy lives of the people in Voulhire. The story soon follows a young boy named Galen, who escapes a war-torn neighboring kingdom to be met by wealth and a far better life left for him by his Grandfather. However, the story takes a drastic turn from happiness and hope to sadness and pain when war breaks out in Hillport, one of the major states in Voulhire. The conflict leads to significant casualties, claiming thousands of lives. These tragic losses are attributable to a menacing magician who, after years of imprisonment, now poses a dire threat to the once-peaceful country.

Tysz's storytelling skills are remarkable, drawing readers into the world of Voulhire from the captivating cover page to the rich content within. The book's intriguing fantasy storyline is so vividly imagined that it feels cinematic. This book has set the bar very high for other fantasy books.

Tysz's attention to detail is also commendable, evident in the glossary at the start and the list of unknown words provided at the end of the book. The glossary, short and concise, initially introduces only the main characters, with the rest being introduced as the story progresses. This way, both the glossary and list of unknown words enhanced the reader's understanding and immersion in the story.

Furthermore, the inclusion of humor, funny scenes, and sarcastic remarks adds a delightful touch to the narrative, providing moments of levity amidst the gripping storyline. The book feels alive and possesses the right amount of humor to make even the angriest individuals burst out in laughter.

Tysz did a great job in describing scenes and people perfectly. The descriptions of scenes and characters are particularly well-crafted. The author's choice and use of adjectives bring the characters to life, allowing readers to form a clear picture in their minds. An example of such description can be seen in phrases like, "his short black hair was pressed with heavy oil to his forehead stopping just above his tended brows and heavy eyeliner".

If I were to give a suggestion to the author, it will be to put a little more effort in the titles of each chapter and perhaps include a table of contents. While the titles he gave told the reader whom the chapter will focus on, it gave no hint as to what the reader should look forward to or expect. A style I have found to effectively create suspense for the reader.

Considering the impeccable storyline, masterful descriptions, skillful use of humor, and absence of grammatical errors, it is undeniable that We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies deserves a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book sets a high standard for the fantasy genre and will leave readers eagerly anticipating future works by Matthew Tysz.
