Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen fled the lands of the Princes to Magnum Caelum, a town in Voulhire, to inherit his uncle's estate. There, he met his uncle's executor, Rowan, who helped him learn all there was to know about his uncle's trade. Now Galen must navigate the kingdom of Voulhire and find out what role he must play in this world.
Wilhelm is the King of Voulhire, but he struggles to keep the peace. How far is Wilhelm willing to go to conceal the truth from his people, even as Maido, the Mianoran chancellor, continuously challenges him?
I didn't know what to expect when I began reading this book, but I found the introduction of the characters at the beginning a welcome idea. It gave me a good glimpse of the story and sparked my interest in reading and learning more about this fantasy world called Voulhire and the magical world of Caromentis.
Eldus is my favorite character. He is a selfless and honest man, but I hope he would think about placing his family's safety ahead of loyalty. The king's decisions confirm the adage that men fear what they cannot control. The author did an excellent job of constructing a wonderful mystery revolving around Meldorath. Also, I appreciate that the author showed clearly when switching from one character's story to the next to avoid confusion. The glossary at the conclusion was also quite useful in comprehending some of the terminology used in this book. I learned vital life lessons about the risks of overconfidence and the consequences of actions taken by those in positions of authority.
This book, 'We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies' by Matthew Tysz, was fascinating, and although I know it's a series, I dislike the suspense at the end and wish the story continued. The book was error free, and I think the editing was excellent. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to those who love books on magic and mystery.
