Romasanta tells the story of the Father of Werewolves and his quest to return the Eye of Gaea to save his wife Daphne who has magically turned into a laurel tree. He has become the keeper of nature directed by Gaea to destroy the evil of the world and maintain the balance.

However Merlin has stolen the Eye of Gaea and now he must find the wizard before it’s too late and he loses the chance to save the love of his life.

Valerie Willis has definitely put in hours of research for this book. There is so many different folklore and mythology tales that are entwined so well within the story, from the Greek gods to the old tales of werewolves and vampires. I didn’t think it would work at first, but as I carried on reading I realised it really did. This allowed the story to be really unique and inventive compared to other books I have read.

A few of the characters in this book are immortal and I enjoyed the fact that the story was told over the centuries from medieval times until the modern day. I believe this showed the enormity of the task the main character had to accomplish well and made the story more believable.

There were a few negatives I found when reading this book. The first is that the writing of this book seems very simple, which means the complexity of the story is lost and makes it feel more like you’re reading a book for a younger reader. This is definitely not the case as there more adult scenes in this book. The combination of these makes it difficult to judge a target audience.

The second issue I had was that at times in the book the main character, Romasanta, has moments of self-reflection. These moments do tend to go on for too long and become a bit laboursome to read.

Overall I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would rate the writing of this book 2 out of 4 stars, however the story was amazing which pulled the mark up. I think further editing would definitely increase my rating of this book as it has all the ingredients for a best seller, it just needs a little work.

I would recommend this book to those who love the fantasy and romance genre. I would say this is a book for the older reader as there are scenes of a sexual nature, however they are very tastefully written and not explicit.

Thank you Sarah for your Honest review on Romasanta!

I am glad you enjoyed the amount of mythology and folklore I pulled together and more importantly, I will take in the advice you have given me involving the level of my writing. It's wonderful reviews like this that help Authors like myself know where we are going right as well as where we need to work harder on in order to make our stories thrive!

Interesting I'll have to check it out..
Usually getting a good mix of lycanthrope's and vampires is tough as one either outshines the other
Last ones i found that worked was the anita blake series , but they just became something of a bdsm nightmare the further the books progressed..might be nice to read something with more history mixed into the fantasy setting..
Thanks for the review Sarah , i'll see about adding this to my list :)

Neither outshine the other as in the book they are linked. Don't want to say any more in case I give anything away :)

Great review! I like mythology and the story seems interesting, but I'm not sure if it's for me. I'm a little burned out on werewolves and vampires.

I will say it's not like a twilight vampire story but werewolves and vampire are involved in the main plot so maybe have a break before reading this :?
