I love magic and the whole idea of it. A lot of people might argue that magic isn't real but I for one do believe that magic is what we make of it. Reading this book created for me a new perspective.

The first of an epic series, We are Voulhire:A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is beautiful work of art that revolves around the lives of Galen, a young man who's trying to revive his uncle's forge, and Lord Eldus who's trying to rebuild Hillport. Galen Bray, the main character, was born in the Lands of the Princes, a land where civil wars constantly raged, so he lived through wars almost all through his life. His life took a new turn when he was named heir to his uncle's forge in another land, Magnum Caelum to be precise, one of the most beautiful cities located in the kingdom of Voulhire . Lord Eldus on the other hand, after being placed over Hillport by King Wilhelm Arcolo of Voulhire is faced with rebuild the city after it had suffered great loss by it's previous leaders, Lord Orlin, a pedophile who made victims out of the people and Lord Medorath, who had ruled the city with magic. Was Galen Bray able to revive his uncle's forge? Did Eldus succeed in rebuilding the fallen city of Hillport? These are questions with answers worth finding and the book holds them.

I particularly like the author's work with the protagonist's character, how he gradually developed the character as the work progressed. He transformed from a delicate youth into a courageous individual unafraid to confront his deepest anxieties. The captain of the ship's compassionate acts towards the main character served as a source of inspiration for me. Unaware of the protagonist's identity, the captain displayed unwavering dedication to protect him, teaching me the valuable lesson of extending assistance to anyone, regardless of their background.

It would be unfair if I didn't award Matthew Tysz his medals; his writing style is beautiful! He had a way with words that helped me visualize the story well enough to understand it. Also the alternating perspectives helped me delve into Galen's thoughts, Eldus's honest intentions and principles, and even glimpses of the King of Voulhire's situation. With Galen, a sense of childlike wonder was ignited within me, as if I, too, were embarking on a journey of discovery in a new world. On the other hand, Eldus captivated me with the enigmatic tales he harbored, showcasing his resilience in safeguarding both his family and the inhabitants of Hillport.

However, I had a few dislikes about the book, mostly stemming from personal preference. The gradual pace of the storyline made it feel somewhat dragged out and repetitive. Additionally, certain character descriptions and the motives behind certain events left me slightly perplexed at times. However, considering that this is only the first book in the series, these aspects are understandable. Moreover, I found the ending to be somewhat anticlimactic compared to the previous moments of excitement and suspense. While it wasn't a cliffhanger, it did spark curiosity regarding what the next installment will bring.

In general, I would gladly give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Since I found very few errors in the book, I can say the book was excellently written and meticulously edited. The book contains a few graphic scenes and instances of profanity, along with references to sensitive topics like child abuse. However, these elements were portrayed indirectly without detailed descriptions. There were no explicit or erotic scenes. I highly recommend this book to fantasy enthusiasts who enjoy well-developed characters and intricate world-building. If you are a mystery lover, this book is also for you!
