Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen Bray learns he has inherited his uncle’s property and business in Voulhire. He did not hesitate to leave his war-torn homeland to start a new and prosperous life in Voulhire. Rowan, his uncle’s executor, acquaints Galen with his new home in Magnum Caelum, a city in Voulhire, while Galen teaches him a few skills. Galen arrives in Voulhire at a pivotal time when terrifying and exciting developments are underway. There are people whose plans are to attack the kingdom. Even more interesting are the powers possessed by these people. Some of them have unique abilities, while others are mages. Is Galen running into another war in Voulhire? Will he succeed in continuing his uncle’s legacy? Does he have an integral part to play in shaping the future of Voulhire? You will have to read We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz to get answers to these questions and more.
Mathew Tysz has done a marvelous job of building the world of Voulhire. In this first book, Tysz does a brilliant job of creatively introducing the different cities in Voulhire and the distinct characters. It did not take much effort on my part to imagine the areas mentioned in the book because Tysz offered sufficient background information and apt descriptions of the places he mentioned. The map also served as a handy resource, as I referred to it a few times to check the geographical spacing of the areas as I was reading.
I was thoroughly intrigued by the storyline, and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Although this book did not end on a cliffhanger, it promises to be an enthralling progressing story that should not be missed. The storyline was well executed, and the plot was well thought out. For these reasons, I am awarding this novel 5 out of 5 stars.
There were no aspects of the book that I disliked. The novel had a slow start as the characters were gradually introduced, but it shaped up quickly after the introduction part. Another positive aspect of the book was its editing. It was professionally edited, and I did not find errors in the book.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy novels with a dash of action and magic. The magical element introduced in this book changed the playing ground and opened a whole new fascinating world that readers will get lost in and enjoy.
