Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
'A fantasy story is a vacation to another world for the price of a sandwich.' ~Anonymous
Matthew Tysz's literary masterwork, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, is a bold, intriguing, and enjoyable novel all rolled into one.
The plot revolves around Galen Bray, a refugee who has fled his battle-scarred homeland and moved to Magnum Caelum, a tiny settlement in Voulhire, to accept a legacy left by his exiled uncle. He learns about life while being mesmerized by the wealth, people, and captivating world that he has been swept into. He is not a superhero; rather, he is a personable figure with feelings and thoughts that we, too, might experience at any time. Come along with him as he begins a thrilling journey to pay back and enhance his new place of residence.
The land of Voulhire is breathtaking as it approaches its golden era. When conviction, technology, and the paranormal offer prospects for development, each with hidden motivations, the populace is seen battling for a sense of self.
This novel captures readers' attention unlike any other since it is a suspense story set against a backdrop of belief and thankfulness. Landscapes, character conflicts, and storyline twists in this engaging and riveting drama are masterfully set. The author develops some of the most appealing personas, particularly the antagonist. His side of the tale is revealed in the final section, causing the reader to doubt the entire scenario and their assumptions about it.
This exceptionally well-edited book contains an element of magic and enchantment. The story's seamless development enthralled me. Although I dreaded having multiple points of view, Matthew's writing style convinced me to appreciate them. He easily kept track of each character's unique history and aspirations. The book is more enjoyable because of the free-flowing writing and concise chapters. The audience is left guessing at every turn of the plot.
Although the segment regarding Gary's sea travel was a little tedious, I like the book overall and rate it a deserving 5 out of 5. A map at the beginning was an excellent addition. Having a map and an overview of the layout made things easier.
If you wish to take a break from reality and transport yourself into a magical universe, I'd recommend this book. It is suitable for all ages and beliefs.
