We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy book from an ongoing series of nine novels. This book provides an exciting story about where magic and the human race collide and blend. The reader will know many storylines, from powerful kings and wizards to simple but courageous men. The kingdom of Voulhire is facing rough times. A powerful wizard, whom everyone believes dead, hides in the shadows of everyone's mind, spreading torment. Riva Rohavi, an organization of rebels, propagates fear and despair by terrorizing the kingdom. Meanwhile, King Wilhelm tries to thrive in his core roles as a king and a family man. Galen Bray, an immigrant seeking a new and better life, falls amid the chaos that gradually takes over the lands of the Voulhire's kingdom.

I confidently recommend this book and say it was a surprisingly enjoyable read. I do not remember the last time that I got this immersed in a fantasy book. The characters were very well developed and crafted. The author is a great storyteller who knows how to conduct the plot intriguingly. I appreciated that the author provided us with a map of the kingdom. I found myself checking the map as the story advanced in complexity. The same sentiment goes towards the characters' glossary and reference guide, with the explanation of more peculiar terms provided. Ultimately, the way the author carefully builds every character makes me, as the reader, invested in every character, whether they are likable or not. And that, in my opinion, is a magnificent skill worth reading.

I had a great time reading the book and can't think of any negative aspects worth mentioning.

I recommend this book to a mature audience of all fiction and fantasy enthusiasts, whether newcomers or current avid readers of these categories. I must make a disclaimer about sensitive themes mentioned in the book, such as the sexual abuse of minors and abusive behavior.

The engaging and intriguing plot and characters outweigh the discomfort that can come from the mentioned sensitive topics since they are laid out carefully and in a manner that suits the story. For this reason, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
