When Dalehei Meldorath was in charge of the king's South Army, Riva Rohavi attacks were unheard of. They probably feared Meldorath, who was General Meldorath by then. However, Meldorath had other ambitions; he retired and set his eyes on Hillport, where he became the magistrate. When he learned about Lord Orlin's crimes of pedophilia, he removed him from lordship and exposed his actions to the whole town, which made Meldorath the people's hero. What he didn't know, however, was that not just the Riva Rohavi rebels, who were the terror of Voulhire, feared him—King Wilhelm also feared him despite him being his friend. The king installed spies when Meldorath assumed lordship over Hillport, and they discovered that Meldorath did far worse things than Orlin. King Wilhelm then imprisoned Meldorath in St. Lorcia, spreading the rumor that he committed suicide while en route to prison. He hoped that by doing that, he was going to remove Meldorath's terror from the people's minds. What wasn't certain, however, was how Meldorath agreed to be imprisoned. He was a powerful mage who could defeat any army. Or maybe he wasn't as powerful as people thought. And maybe this was all part of his plan.

"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz is simply one of the best fantasy books I've read so far. The book presents an intricate plot with so many complexities. The nuances of the politics of Voulhire, along with the terrors of the Riva Rohavi and Meldorath's plans, blend seamlessly to make for an intensely entertaining read that was difficult to put down. I loved how all the different plots were somehow connected not only to all the other plots but also to the whole book. From the war in the Lands of the Princes to the discovery of a rare magical mineral in Alcovia, there was always some relation to the overall plot.

While the author did a great job of seamlessly connecting the many plots and making the overall plot so engrossing, he, however, left so many cliffhangers. While this made sure that the intrigue was sustained and that I was always engaged, it became frustrating—and even infuriating at times, especially when the next chapter was of a different plot altogether. Most of these unresolved plots were eventually solved, but some were left unresolved. I've learned that there's another installment in this series, which could resolve them, but it doesn't in any way assuage my impatience.

It's difficult to say what I liked the most—I could fill pages trying to do so. A more general opinion would be that the book was perfectly written overall. What I liked least was how unresolved some plots were. There are very few errors, but the book seems professionally edited. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because of how exceptional it is. Despite the frustration, I think the unresolved plots are more of a personal issue, so I can't deduct a star because of it. This book is perfect for lovers of engrossing fantasy books.
