Sect War by Kerry Watkins is a science fiction fantasy book exploring aircraft wars in an excellent yet distinctive way. The book features many characters carefully and properly built up, leaving readers wondering if these are actual events.

The book stars Brewster, the man in the spotlight. He was built as a very smart man who did not depend on luck to get victories. He was calculative and took time to recount different events to know where he fell flat and where he stood out. The book talks about two Hives in a war against each other. One had a very strong lead, while the other was barely holding out until the man of the show showed up. Sergent Mix Brewster was working in aircraft maintenance when he was finally reassigned to participate in the war he had longed to witness. The war had been going on for so long that he longed to know what it was.

On his way to experiencing his lifelong dream, his craft came into contact with the most dangerous man in the war, Slayer. He was so brutal that his name resonated throughout the war, and anyone who lived to tell the story of the encounter trembled in fear. Was young Brewster able to survive his encounter with the Slayer? Did the Slayer ever get a taste of his own medicine? Find out by reading this book.

I loved that the book was fast-paced and didn't leave room for boring moments. The author took time to explain things about the crafts. While that may be boring to some people, it was needed to carry everyone along so we wouldn't be left questioning how possible it is to fly inverted and the many other terms in the book. The moment we heard about the Slayer, there was a little suspense, and we had an encounter with him—nothing too dragged out to create a boring moment. I loved Brewster's relationships with the other characters. The author has a very vivid imaginative ability. This one scene kept blowing my mind each time I remembered it. Grab this book to find out about the scene. It is easy to identify. It was Brewster's first encounter with the Slayer.

There was nothing too bothersome that detracted from the book's quality, but the book didn't have to be that long. The content is captivating, but the length was discouraging too. It should have been turned into a series to help shorten the length. Also, I didn't understand why there had to be things like colonies, hives, hornets, and wasps. Some of these were names given to the craft, and I could not understand why they were chosen. At some point, I paused and asked myself if the characters were insects. Then I realized they were humans, only to get confused again. Also, I wish there was a glossary at the book's end explaining the hierarchy. I found it hard to keep up and had no place to directly reference it without going through the book again.

For these reasons, I rate this book four out of five stars. The positives outweigh the negatives, hence the higher rating. The book was excellently edited, as there was just one uncounted error. I recommend this book for fans of this genre specifically. The book is for you if you have a soft spot for warships and the rest. It wouldn't appeal to just anyone who is a fan of the fantasy and sci-fi genres.

All of the names do sound a little bit confusing. That, however, just makes me want to read the novel for myself to figure out if I can unravel it for myself. Thanks!

The review of "Sect War" by Kerry Watkins provides an overview of the book's plot and highlights its fast-paced nature, well-developed characters, and imaginative storytelling. The reviewer appreciates the author's ability to explain technical details about the crafts, ensuring readers are engaged and can follow the story. The encounter between Brewster and the brutal Slayer is particularly intriguing, leaving a lasting impression on the reviewer's mind. However, the length of the book is mentioned as a discouraging factor, suggesting it could have been condensed or turned into a series. The confusion regarding the names given to the crafts and the lack of a glossary to explain the hierarchy are also mentioned as areas of improvement. Despite these issues, the book is praised for its editing quality, receiving a rating of four out of five stars. The review concludes with a recommendation for fans of the science fiction fantasy genre, specifically those interested in warships and related themes.

This world of hives seems strange to me and I'm curious to see how such society is structered and what are the consequences, not only on the war, of living as part of a hive. Thank you for your great review!
