This fantasy book is about two worlds: the physical one called Cosmos and the magic universe of Caromentis, which has different realms that all behave differently according to their creators’ specifications. In this magical universe, space and time can be manipulated just as the laws of physics can. Due to the different realms here, the body is like an illusion in that it adjusts depending on the needs of where you are; it has wings when you need to fly, fins when you need to swim, and legs when you need to walk.

This book is mainly set in the physical world of Cosmos in the prosperous country of Voulhire, a relatively young country that has rapidly developed due to its’ hardworking and strong kings to become a great economic hub in the region. Voulhire is governed by King Wilhelm, whose powers are checked by the Mianoran Council, which is headed by chancellor Midius Maido. We are also introduced to Galen Bray, a humble immigrant from the war-torn Lands of the Princes who is in search of a better life through an inheritance of his uncles’ forge.

Having achieved massive success in most of Voulhire, the king is now concerned with its’ rural southern parts, which lag despite their enormous potential. He has just appointed a new lord for the southern town of Hillport, its’ third lord in six months. The king arrested and imprisoned his friend and previous lord of Hillport, Meldorath, a feared and powerful mage who is regarded as a demigod. Meldorath was more concerned about the magic universe of Caromentis than about serving the people of Hillport, so much so that he used to perform magical experiments on them. He is said to be dead, but the time and place of this are not known. Is he really dead?

This book, being the opening volume of a series, is very detailed, interesting, and entertaining, with different characters with their own points of view. I will rate it 5 out of 5 stars because the characters are diverse with smooth storylines, and it is very well written and perfectly edited with zero typos and errors. The use of both first- and third-person narration was vivid and very captivating. I commend the inclusion of a character list at the beginning of the book. There are, however, some graphic scenes of violence that sensitive readers should note.

For an introductory volume, it did well; it was an engaging, suspenseful read that leaves you eager to know what happens next. I highly recommend it to lovers of fiction and fantasy.

Matthew Tysz did wonders in this book. The way he conferred up this fantasy story still amazes me. Voulhire sounds both ordinary and extraordinary. I just liked this book's plot. Great review.
