"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" by Mathew Tysz is a truly amazing fantasy novel that takes readers on an incredible journey into the kingdom of Voulhire. The story brims with magic and intrigue, immersing readers in a rich and wondrous universe. The protagonist, Galen Bray, is an immigrant eager to leave behind his old life and start anew in Voulhire, a land teeming with knowledge and secrets waiting to be unraveled. What he didn't know was that Voulhire had its own unique share of crises awaiting him.
The kingdom of Voulhire, led by the troubled King Wilhelm, presents a fascinating backdrop. Characters like Midius Maido, the Chancellor of the Mianoran Council, add to the intrigue. There are concerns that corruption has infiltrated the Mianoran knights and others, with some individuals seeking destruction and power while others aspire to extend their influence to other realms. Amid these conflicting forces, Galen embarks on a journey of self-discovery, grappling with the ambitions of complex individuals that will shape the future of his beloved nation.
The book stands out with its diverse and compelling characters, making it incredibly engaging. Each chapter provides a unique perspective, offering valuable insights into their personalities and motivations. The characters themselves are well-developed, relatable, and flawed, with their own strengths and secrets throughout the book. From the kind-hearted Galen to the enigmatic Lord Eldus, each character leaves a lasting impression on the reader.
Tysz's world-building is truly extraordinary and sets this book apart. Voulhire is brought to life with its vivid historical background, intricate political landscape, and elements of magic. The pacing of the book is also expertly balanced, keeping readers engaged and eager to uncover what lies ahead. Tysz skillfully blends action, suspense, and mystery, resulting in a story that leaves readers yearning for more. The unexpected twists throughout the narrative add an extra layer of excitement, ensuring readers remain captivated and eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
The writing is flawless, with perfect editing that minimizes errors and allows the storyline to shine from the first page to the last.
