"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz is an impressive beginning to a Sci-Fi/Fantasy series of nine books. The author does really well to create an immersive world, introduce compelling characters, and maintain a sense of tension throughout. The story is set in the land of Voulhire, a fictional world filled with political conflicts, mysteries, and magic. Right from the opening pages, it throws you into a chilling event that gives you a glimpse of just how terrifying Meldorath, one of Voulhire's most powerful characters, can be.

One thing that stands out about this book is its different use of perspectives in a unique chapter structure that takes you around the world. That recreates the feeling of watching a TV series as you are introduced to some of Voulhire's most important characters in the third-person, such as King Wilhelm and Lord Eldus. While it's a nice experience to get to know them and see how events unfold from the outside, it's the first-person perspective of Galen that really draws you in. This personal touch lets you connect with him on a deeper level than the other characters as you follow his journey from the war-torn Land of the Princes to start his new life in Voulhire where he learns to be a blacksmith.

Overall, "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is a delightful treat for those looking for a deep and complex experience. It's exceptionally well-edited with no noticeable errors. While at first I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the information, as I kept reading, I started to appreciate the attention to detail and found myself fully engaged. I'd go as far as to say if you're a fan of Tolkien's works you might enjoy this book too. I give it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to anyone interested in the fantasy genre, as long as you're okay with some vividly described gory fights. While it does contain violence and references to sexual themes, everything is carefully and thoughtfully explained.
