Matthew Tysz's book titled We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a captivating serialized novel that explores the intricacies of life within the imagined realm of Voulhire. The book spans 199 pages and explores themes such as magic, religion, law, and science. The narrative takes us to the Lands of the Princes and Hillport.

The story begins by introducing Galen, a refugee from the war-torn Lands of the Princes who embarks on a journey to Voulhire to inherit his great-uncle's forge. Voulhire is governed by King Wilhelm, a ruler torn between political challenges and leadership responsibilities. To restore Hillport, which its former lords ravaged, Wilhelm sends Lord Eldus and his family to the task. One such lord, the enigmatic and powerful mage named Meldorath, adds a layer of intrigue.

The book is masterfully crafted, brimming with suspense and an unpredictable plot. It skillfully weaves multiple storylines, emphasizing betrayal, survival, and adventure themes. Galen emerges as a compelling character, displaying intelligence, confidence, and courage in pursuing a better life far from home. Lord Eldus, on the other hand, serves as an admirable leader dedicated to restoring peace in Voulhire.

The world-building in this novel is exceptional, effectively setting the stage for future installments. The seamless fusion of magic and science within the narrative is a true delight, and the realms of the Cosmos and Caromentis are vividly depicted. The primary and secondary characters are expertly developed, enriching the story with depth and intrigue.

The author's writing style captivates readers with its clarity and precision. Additionally, including a glossary at the beginning and end of the book proves helpful in navigating the introduction of new characters or recalling previously mentioned ones.

I found no flaws in this well-edited book, which flawlessly balances its pacing, steadily building action and suspense toward a satisfying climax. Therefore, I wholeheartedly give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this book to lovers of science fiction, avid travelers, and those interested in linguistics. However, please note that I recommend it for adult readers due to the dark portrayal of child abuse.
