“We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies” is a 5/5 book.

In the first book of his saga, Matthew Tysz tells the story of a world where magic and physics coexist with humanity and war. Somewhere where everything is possible, but at the same time, people remain just people as we know them here. He creates an intricate story where nothing is left by chance that progressively absorbs the reader.

There are several main characters whose stories unfold at the same time. The main ones include Galen and Lord Eldus. The first is a refugee from a country at war trying to adapt to his new life in an unknown country with new friends and customs. The second, together with his family, aims to protect his new territory and help them heal from the evil of the past. Both are described as kind-hearted men that care about their duties, despite being at the opposite poles of the social scale.

It is impressive how each introduced character is written with a high level of complexity, making each of the stories told interesting. This means that the story starts somewhat slowly, but as soon as action begins one can’t stop reading and worry about what will happen next. Certainly, this is also the result of attention to detail that is rarely seen in fantasy/sci-fi books such as this one. Not one single typo or grammar mistake was present and nothing said was just forgotten or irrelevant as everything revealed itself meaningful for the plot. It has to be acknowledged that getting lost in details, but being careful with them is extremely exceptional for a book in this genre.

For these reasons this book is worth reading, just be aware that the first instinct one has right after finishing the last sentence is to start the sequel as soon as possible.
