We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy book where the author has built a whole new world with science, imagination, and magic. The book starts with Galen Bray, a young man who leaves his old city in search of a better life. His adventure brought him to Voulhire, where he met Rowan. Together, they travel through new, unknown places, totally unaware of the turbulence in those cities. This book is the introduction to the Voulhire series. It gives intricate details to its readers, so they can buckle up for further action-packed adventures in the Lands of the Princes.

As the author has built his own world with different people, cultures, religions, cities, and every other possible element, I was ecstatic to find a map at the very beginning of the book. At first, the map felt somewhat like South India, but it did justice to the story. The book mentioned a few sensitive topics, like rape and pedophilia. As this book is based on kings, wars, and kingdoms, there are certain descriptions of murder, bloodshed, etc. So, readers should be a little careful about these before picking up the book. But I am sure it can be a great read if one does not have issues with these.

Now, coming to the things I liked about the novel, the concept was very thought-provoking. There is no doubt that the author took ten years to play with the concept in his mind. The characters were well described and the timeline was beautifully maintained. Each chapter not only spoke about the different circumstances in different cities but also talked about their people. The writing style was excellent, as it went perfectly with the era of lords and kings. The best thing was the sense of humor of the characters. I enjoy sarcasm and jokes in any book. This novel was no exception. Most importantly, the author gave different styles of speech to each character according to their age and profession. It proved the level of dedication of the creator. I loved how the Aldermans were kind and rooted to their family. My favorite was Eldus Alderman. The Lord was portrayed as a kind, emotional man. He was not ashamed to shed tears for his people, nor was he hesitant to accept his wife's suggestions. Charlotte, on the other hand, played a brave, strong, and intelligent role beside the Lord, yet proved to be loving and empathetic towards everyone. I liked how the author always tried to highlight the strength of the commoners in unity throughout the book.

There was nothing to dislike about the book. Though it can feel a little lengthy for people. This is not a book to finish in one sitting.

The book was exceptionally well edited, as I did not find any grammatical errors. The story needs the undivided attention of the readers to understand every bit and piece, as every chapter talks more about each person or event. Hence, I will recommend this to fantasy lovers who love action and emotion on the same page. Keeping the above points in mind, I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
