HP vs Hunger Games

I have tried to read the Hunger Games books, and was bored to death. I didn't even care for the movies. However I have watched all of the Harry Potter movies and continue to watch them as they come on TV all the time.
So my question is, I am almost 30 and I have never read a single word of a Harry Potter book. Is it worth the money to invest to read them at my age? I am curious about the hype of the books.
