Severed Roots was a fantastic read from start to finish! It is set in a futuristic dystopian world in which gender roles are reversed. Severed Roots is a well written, perfectly edited story that will have you questioning our own current societal structures and values. The thoughtful detail that was used to describe each character, from their appearance to their inner thoughts and feelings made relating to them seem almost natural. This book sucks you right into the future, in Ottawa, Canada, where women rule and men are to be slowly eradicated. The main character, a mankey named Nick, who is all but brainwashed into subservience, begins to question all he has ever known, and embarks on an adventure to find the truth. Right to the end you are rooting for Nick and his determination to find his truth and, ultimately, happiness.
Nego Huzcotoq is a great descriptive visionary, allowing you to submerge yourself into the world he has created. I felt a connection with the characters; with their emotions and situations. I felt their emotional turmoil; appreciated their questoning and search for truth beyond any illusion.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 because, simply put, it brought me to another world. I could not stay away from this book, I gorged on it until the end. As far as I am concerned it was perfectly written and edited in such a way that it flowed easily from one scene to the next, with no gaps or confusion; no spelling or grammatical errors(that my eyes could see).
I would recommend this book to the people who question everything; to the people who enjoy science-fiction and assert an interest in the possibilities of the future no matter how seemingly far-fetched.

I can't wait for the sequel!
