Review of Courting Fate
Rafe follows Ana to the hospital after he rescues her when she is mugged, shot, and left for dead while walking home from work. Kara, Ana’s roommate, is shocked and concerned when Rafe takes it upon himself to become Ana’s protector. After all, Ana and Rafe had never met before she was attacked. Ana is cautious because she is a loner without any friends, has never had a boyfriend, and has no desire to have one. Ana has a secret about her past that Kara and Rafe want to know about, but she will not reveal it. As time goes by, Ana discovers a connection between her and Rafe, making her think she has known him before. Unfortunately, just as Ana decides to enter a relationship with Rafe, he disappears for four months, breaking her heart. What is Ana’s secret? Where did Rafe go when he disappeared? Will Ana forgive Rafe for disappearing? Read Courting Fate: Book 1 of The Courtship Saga by A.R. Kaufer to learn the answers to these and many more questions.
Each of the characters in this book is fully developed with a unique purpose in the story. The suspense and mystery in the plot are maintained throughout the book as each character’s purpose and secret are slowly revealed. The effects of abuse and bullying are intricately woven throughout the story. As I read this book, I felt the same emotions as the characters: joy, love, betrayal, and fear. I learned the importance of kindness, self-defense, and self-confidence. Another lesson is never to turn your back on an opponent. The plot flowed smoothly in this well-written book about forbidden romances and how you can become the person you were always meant to be with love, compassion, and empathy from those around you.
At first, I thought the first few chapters were too slow, but as I continued reading, I realized it was necessary for character development. I was not too fond of Ana at the beginning of the book because she was weak-natured and always fainting or vomiting. However, this was necessary to develop her character fully, and I came to appreciate her personality. I disliked nothing about this book and am eager to read more books in this series, as this is only the first one.
This professionally edited book deserves nothing less than a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The author has done an excellent job of incorporating romance and fantasy together, leaving the reader wanting to read more with the cliffhanger ending. With only one grammatical error, I saw nothing in this book that needed improvement.
If you enjoy reading epic fantasies or romance novels, this book is for you. This book may be offensive to those who do not believe in praying for help, assistance, or favors. I will caution readers that this book does contain non-borderline profanity, same-sex relationships, and topics about abuse and bullying.
