Daughter of the Light by Silvia Shaw shines so brightly that it makes for an excellent read. Bree endured numerous horrors and suffered a decade of abuse within the Abbey, a place that had become a dark sanctuary for sorcery disguised as the Order of the Sacred Flame. Many girls were taken by the Death Demons at midnight, and Bree's survival hinged solely on her magic. However, her brief respite was short-lived, as Bree was soon put up for auction. Fortunately, Savannah arrived at The Flaming Fox tavern and attempted to secure Bree's passage to the Flagspurs. Can Bree escape the clutches of the Abbey and its sinister Mothers? What brought Savannah to such a dreadful place? And why did only Bree manage to evade the demons? As the story unfolds, all these questions will find answers.

The writing captivates with its enchanting quality, immersing readers in a tale that swiftly delves into action. The imagery paints vivid pictures of the enchanting landscapes of Rand and beyond, making it impossible to resist the allure of this book. The world-building is rich and immersive, allowing readers to lose themselves in the fantastical realms and cultures. The characters are so compelling that picking a favourite becomes a delightful challenge. Throughout the narrative, timeless themes of love, friendship, and magic unfold in their finest form, enhancing the overall reading experience.

While the book excels in many aspects, some readers might find that the actual action unfolds relatively late in the narrative and concludes a bit swiftly. Additionally, although the book effectively sets up the groundwork for future books in the series, it could benefit from more seamless connections to the broader world it shares with other books in this universe. Although a few errors exist within the text, they do not significantly detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.

The pacing of the story keeps readers eagerly turning pages, driven by anticipation and curiosity about what will happen next. The author skillfully weaves intricate plot twists and surprises, keeping the narrative fresh and unpredictable. Every character, from Bree to Savannah, Esme to Feya, and the Queens, possess a unique charm that effortlessly captures the reader's heart. The emotional depth of the characters and their personal growth throughout the story add layers of complexity and relatability, making their journeys profoundly resonant. The themes of love, friendship, and magic are beautifully interwoven, creating a tapestry of emotions that readers can deeply connect with. Nonetheless, the book's delayed and swift action, its limited integration with the broader series, and the presence of errors cannot be totally overlooked, even though these aspects do not markedly diminish its overall appeal. For all these reasons, I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend this book to all readers who enjoy fantasy and magical adventures. Readers who enjoy immersive, character-driven fantasy stories with rich world-building will find this book difficult to put down. I, personally, can't wait for the next book.

I feel for Bree and her predicament. I'm not really interested in magic, though. I hope she can get out.

The story's compelling narrative, enchanting world-building, and unforgettable characters make it an irresistible journey for fantasy enthusiasts. While it takes a bit of time for the action to unfold and some minor errors exist, these slight drawbacks don't overshadow the overall enjoyment of this immersive tale.

Despite its slow start and the flaws you pointed out, this seems like an engaging novel that starts and epic fantasy series with well-developed setting and characters. I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!
