We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, by Matthew Tysz is a fantastical journey through a strange land that is as familiar and relatable as it is mystical and intriguing. The author provides two reference sections to make it easier to understand Voulhire, its people, and the world it inhabits. I appreciate being able to navigate through the story without becoming lost in the world-building.
However the more you come to understand the world, the more you realize much of it is as secret to the reader as it is to the people who live there.

As the story moves from characters seemingly far removed from each other, you try to gauge how they will all come together and what great parts they play in each other's lives. Even as the setting and focus change with each chapter the story remains easy to follow and understand.

Galen is a refreshing protagonist. Neither a devil may-care anti-hero nor a totally clueless rube, you can see that Galen is motivated by his morals and desires. Although it's clear Galen has much to learn about the world around him, it doesn't feel like his ignorance is a plot device to educate the reader. You feel like you're learning with him not simply because of him.

Matthew Tysz does well to give each character their own voice and personality. Many of them shine in a world already brilliant, not allowing them to be outdone by the magic and mystery that surrounds them. Weaving societal and political problems into the core of the story makes this strange world relatable and thought-provoking. There are bad people, good people, blurred lines in between, and many individuals of unknown or convoluted morals, making Voulhire as politically and socially complicated as our own but with the added divisiveness of magic.

We Are Voulhire, a New Arrival under Great Skies, is an exceptionally well-written book. I did not detect any typographic or grammatical errors, and rate the book 5/5 for its masterful storytelling, fascinating plot, and exceptional editing. I truly look forward to reading the remaining books in the series. Any fiction reader would find great enjoyment in exploring the world of Voulhire so I highly recommend diving into this engaging world.
