Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is certainly the most original book I've read so far. It is the first book in the series and tells the story of Thoral Mighty Fist and his adventure to save the land of Grome from the threat of the Heartless One and the Pudding of Power cooked by the evil Mauron. Yes, you read that right. This book is the perfect blend of Lord of the Rings and Thor: Ragnarok.

It was truly the funniest book I have read in my entire life. I don’t usually laugh out loud when I read a book, but Hardison’s writing style made the reading experience the funniest I’ve ever had. I can’t even begin to list what I enjoyed most about this book, but I will try. First, there's Thoral, the “foreigner” who can’t remember the simplest words and explains them in very complicated sentences. I can't explain why Thoral is considered a foreigner because it would give away a big spoiler. Then there's Brad. Who is a koi fish. Who speaks. And who lives in Thoral’s belt as his sidekick. I don’t think I need to add anything to that. My favorite character, however, is Tyncie CheeChaw CheeChee WeeWaw, the squirrel who appears in only 3 scenes but plays a very important role in the story. Her name alone should make you fall in love with her.

There is nothing I did not like about this book. I can only list things I loved about it, like how Thoral speaks in ancient English, while Brad talks like a teenager who spends his afternoons on TikTok. Or how Thoral says phrases like “I am sworn to an older swear than the swear I swore when I swore to the elves.” That was really a treat to read. The story itself is also always moving and never falters. It is full of twists and turns and things that the reader would never expect. Although the book has many elements from Narnia and The Lord of the Rings, it is a story all on its own and a very creative one at that.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series as we are left with a pretty big cliffhanger at the end. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. To be honest, I would give it 10 stars if I could. The story is action-packed and never boring, the characters are all super interesting in their way, the writing style is by far the best I’ve read so far, and the comedic side makes the whole book. I did not find any errors in it either, so I can confidently say it's exceptionally well edited.

I would recommend this book to everyone. Read this book. Even if you hate reading, I promise you will fall in love with this book!
