Terrance Brown suddenly goes from being a nobody to becoming the most popular student in his school and even around his country, after an unexplained event from which he came out strangely unharmed. Shortly after, a mysterious box unexpectedly ‘finds’ Terrance.

A small dot in the sky falling straight toward Terrance is what starts this captivating story. After that, Terrance becomes a conundrum. Only a few weeks later, a puzzle box appears, and it contains a secret which is expected to be revealed at 7:57 pm five months after the strange appearance of the box. What transpires after that day at 7:57 pm keeps Terrance puzzled. Next, in a neat and all-white uncommon laboratory, Terrance finds that even his thoughts can be read by this person that apparently knows Terrance from their younger years. Who is this bug-eyed benefactor? What could happen if the concepts, learned by Terrance, about time travel were violated? Is someone omniscient behind all of this?

In this story, the suspense is constant in a friendly yet intriguing way. Although here and there the plot gets intricate, this is a story that flows with a force of its own. The words and sentences flow smoothly. Questions and sentences, intentionally embedded in each chapter, amplify the intrigue, highlighting moments and situations where one thing leads to another.

Terrance Brown is a relatable, pleasant, and likable character. Stanley, the weird and arrogant teenager possesses this gift, admired and desired by many in the world, that I found both detestable and admirable at the same time. And Blaire's striking beauty and popularity, combined with her pivotal role in critical moments, swiftly become so relevant in this book.

Will Terrance Brown solve the puzzle in exactly five months from the bombing at 7:57 pm? What would happen if he didn’t? What’s ‘dead time’ in this book? The story revolves around a mystery that can be read by people of all ages. This story touches on the themes of manipulation, selfishness, and the power of a well-lived life. Who would have guessed that the mention in class, by Terrance, of a magnetic gyroscope would be the beginning and hidden inspiration for an onlooker to start toying around with the idea of time travel?

I wish I could watch a movie out of this provocative book. Reading it has certainly made me appreciate Lentine’s storytelling voice. Momentum is created and sustained; the story has wonderful threads of suspense and narrative—those moments where one is glued to the story, savoring each line, and feeling as if we were in the story, with our feelings and emotions triggered in so many directions. There’s nothing about this book that I have disliked. Plus, the editing is flawless. With that said, I’d award 5 out of 5 stars to “Beyond the Bowling Ball Bombing.”
