Brink of Extinction by Nicholas Ryan, is a story that centers around two nameless characters of which the author simply refers to as the ‘man’ and the ‘boy’. Set in a post zombie apocalyptic period, the man and the boy, although are not on good terms because of a misunderstanding, go on a journey together to a museum where something awaits them. However, getting there is not without difficulties. Treading on a land where crime is running rampant, the man and the boy found themselves in a highly dangerous territory.

In a lawless place, a vile gang is formed and is run by a monstrous and ruthless man named Gideon Silver. Gideon and his men are actively in the hunt for any remaining survivors of the apocalypse to do as they please once they hold them captive. As the man and the boy travel the ungoverned wasteland towards their destination, conflicts ensue along the way. Seeing firsthand how Gideon’s men brutally treats the captured civilians, the pair gets themselves involved, for they can’t in good conscience just walk away from the sickening situation. Despite their differences, the man and the boy worked together as a team as they try to fight Gideon and his men.

The story is filled with action sequences and I admire the author’s detailed style in narrating the story. The description of the disaster-ridden zone was very vivid and I was able to mentally picture the setting easily. On that note, I’d like to give a heads up to the potential readers of this book about the extreme graphic scenes of violence in the story.

While the story seemed short and fast paced, it didn't feel like it was rushed in any way. I enjoyed reading the book for the most part. Although I have mixed feelings about some of the man's decisions and choices, when the dust has settled, he redeemed himself in my eyes.

As an acclaimed author of action and suspense, Nicholas Ryan did not disappoint with this book. To the readers who love a good action, this book will appeal to you. Overall the book is interesting and I give it a 3 out of 4 stars rating. It’s a well written, action-packed book with a good amount of highs and lows throughout the story. I've found a couple of typos but I can easily give them a pass. The ending was bittersweet and I hope the author will whip up a sequel since there seemed to be some aspects of the story that deserve to be told.

Sounds like a very interesting book. However, wasn't it difficult to read a book with nameless characters? :) I can't remember having read one. Good job on the review.
