The Prophecy of the Heron is a very captivating A.I dystopian mystery driven narrative aligning very well with its genre.

It is quite interesting how the author played with the plot bringing new elements until its final chapter constructing an intriguing puzzle that keeps raising more questions than it answers.

Craig W. Stanfill played with the many possibilities of A.I development and its adverse impact bringing quite imaginative points of view to the novel, original perspectives and different approaches.



The book is set in a highly disturbing A.I. controlled timeline.

The novel begins with Kim, the main character, forced to live in a very austere and dangerous economic and cultural chaotic “prison” as a consequence of being found guilty of a “romantic” crime, she then starts a journey of self empowerment and all throughout the book Kim faces many challenging circumstances.

She's heavily impacted by the coping and rising from this AI controlled society and as the novel unfolds she strives to do what's right but struggles with balancing her own survival and her inclination to be rebellious in such inventive ways.

The story pacing allows the reader to keep speculating during all of the narrative progression with unexpected and captivating subplots and twists in each chapter.



There is something to be said for the last chapters of The Prophecy of the Heron, they may be difficult to read for the reader with none or low familiarity with the sci-fi genre and its terminology and may require a second read to grasp all of the mind bending virtual reality new ideas that it provides, no fault or blame should be placed on the author for this, of course.



This is unquestionably a 5 star read and I am pleased to recommend it because of its core ideas and concepts that kept me engrossed until the last word and with such an electrifying effect.
