Review of Finderworld
Life on the earth's surface had become difficult, almost impossible. Only those who had the foresight to avoid the danger as it came were completely safe. However, humanity did not learn from its past mistakes. Greed and the lust for power remained, and the people who cared must find a way to save the earth before it was too late. The people who survived on the surface saw the horrors that those who escaped did not see, and they would fight to prevent the same destruction from happening again.
There exist some people called "Finders," who are closer to Mother Earth than humans. They can heal the earth and restore it to its former harmony. However, the threat to the earth proves very dangerous. The "Finders" and humans must answer the earth's call and stand together. Will they succeed, or will everything they have worked for go up in flames?
Finderworld by Doreen Kellett is a dystopian fantasy/sci-fi book that talks about the attempt of the earth to destroy humans from its surface and the struggle of humans for survival. It sends a silent call to readers to show more love and respect to the earth that nurtures and freely offers up its resources.
This book is unforgettable. It forms a lasting impression. Little "Finders" danced around in my head, and glowing crystals shone brightly. This book is a feat of descriptive ability, and I have encountered very few books like this. The author's descriptions are vivid, and she doesn't always spell things out plainly and flatly for the reader. It engages the imagination and immerses one soundly in the book. The author set such a realistic scene that I almost expected to leave my room and find the world precisely as described in the book. Her writing will arouse strong emotions in most readers — despair, hope, and joy.
I found the storyline very fascinating and engaging. I really couldn't stop reading this book. There were many parts; new people and ideas introduced at strategic points. However, I just found myself being swept along at every turn. I particularly found the Finders' song intriguing. The idea of communicating with the earth through music was beautiful. This music played a massive part in their fight for the earth.
There were moments when confusion threatened because of the long timeline (over a thousand years) and the constant change in perspective. However, the author's consistency in details came to the rescue. Even when I thought some details had been changed, I discovered that the details were the same when I reread some of those confusing parts. The conscientiousness that the author employed reassured me, as I didn't have to cross-check details constantly. I could read and enjoy the book without confusion.
If you love shorter, easier reads, this book is not for you. The book touches on heavy themes like violence and death. However, sexual violence was treated too casually in this book for my liking.
I found little to dislike about this book; I loved the writing style and the storyline. However, there were many grammatical and typographical errors. Another round of professional editing would significantly improve the book. Therefore, I'd deduct a star and rate it 4 out of 5 stars. I'd recommend it to lovers of dystopian science fiction and fantasy.
