[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Earther Wizazrd" by Richard S. Thomas.]
Magic has had a lasting impact on human existence because of its connection to the mystique of wizards and its ancient roots. From Merlin's enchantments to the mystics of ancient Egypt, magic has been a source of awe and a means of change across cultures. It has influenced myths, ceremonies, and even the development of entire civilizations. The main significance of it, however, is in the way it continues to pique our imagination and serve as a constant reminder that even in the fanciful, there is a link to our past, demonstrating the power of the extraordinary in our human story. Richard S. Thomas' novel Earther Wizard: The Rise of Colin Duncan (Book 1) is a tale of wizardry, magic, conflict, and awe.
The book opens with Corporal Colin Duncan, a US military agent with a troubled background, learning at a moment's notice that he is a direct descendant of Logan Duncan, a wizard from the planet Tolive who was the most powerful wizard ever to have lived. Even though Colin had always been an odd youngster with supernatural abilities, as an adult, he was surprised to find himself suddenly besieged by wizards emerging from a blue circle of fire. Colin set out on a mission to carry on his ancestor Logan's legacy. Did he manage to succeed? The life of Colin was continuously under siege from dragons, magicians, and other magical beings. All the wizards on planet Tolive desired access to a secret project that Logan was working on, but only Colin had access to it. With such substantial authority and responsibility, what would Colin do?
The plot of this book is unpredictable, and the storyline is captivating. Colin, the main character, displayed remarkable bravery despite having only human combat abilities, making him unquestionably my favorite character. He didn't let fear take over. Additionally, he was watchful and perceptive, as he learned not to trust people too readily after being deceived by his purported friend, Ada. However, the return of the dragon egg in defiance of his ancestor Logan's orders astonished me. Later, I discovered that Colin, despite being a courageous warrior, was also a peace activist. He understood that choosing peace is always preferable.
Because of his accomplishments, such as being the first wizard to ever kill a dragon, Colin ends up becoming a great wizard—arguably the best wizard to ever live. Although he possessed great power, he never oppressed those who were less fortunate and continued to live in peace.
There isn't anything about this book that I dislike. The editor and author did an excellent job, and I wish to commend them. The book is exceptionally edited. I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars and advise all readers to read this book, especially those who enjoy medieval magical stories.
