Review:
Sonya and Trey, an improbable pair, intersect on an enthralling journey through the realm of science fiction. Trey, the geeky scientist, makes a crucial decision to dismantle his latest groundbreaking invention, recognizing its potential peril to humanity. Little does he realize, that a terrorist organization becomes privy to this invention through contact with Trey's incensed ex-girlfriend. This group hatches a scheme to apprehend Trey and compel him to become a part of their scientific team. In this twist of fate, Trey crosses paths with Sonya, a tenacious motorcycle enthusiast who is fleeing her former gang leader and abusive ex-boyfriend, Levi. Whether guided by serendipity or destiny, these two individuals become inseparable as they venture into an exhilarating escapade while relentlessly pursued.
Ben Schneider's novel "Chrome Mountain" is a gripping and captivating work of literature. While I don't typically gravitate toward action genres, I found myself completely immersed in this book. Right from the outset, the plot unfolds with riveting adventures that had me eagerly anticipating each new development. The chapters are skillfully crafted, striking a perfect balance between heart-pounding sequences and lighthearted, comedic moments. This balance ensures that readers are not inundated with constant action, allowing them to fully savor the subtleties of the story. I was particularly intrigued by the interplay of light and dark elements within the narrative. The author masterfully intertwines these contrasting elements, resulting in a truly engaging reading experience.
The storyline delves into the characters' profound and heart-wrenching pasts, revealing Sonya's traumatic ordeals of abuse and the tragic loss of her friend, along with Trey's struggles with unemployment and a failed romantic relationship. What stands out as noteworthy is the author's adept incorporation of sarcasm and humor, which infuses a measure of levity into these melancholic scenarios. The primary characters often respond to the grim events around them with wry and witty remarks. While the terrorist group is depicted as a formidable force, there are moments when they display a whimsical and imprudent side.
The character growth in this book is exceptional, creating a deep bond between the reader and the main characters. Sonya's transformation from a life filled with violence, theft, and mistreatment to discovering Christianity and forming a connection with Trey adds complexity to the narrative. The themes of Christianity and redemption are interwoven throughout the story, providing a cohesive thread. The personal changes that Sonya and Trey experience make the book more relatable and heartwarming, lifting it above being just an action-packed tale. The development of these characters is truly remarkable, forging a strong emotional connection between the reader and the protagonists.
Kindly be aware that this book might not be appropriate for younger audiences due to the presence of violence and the occasional use of strong language. Therefore, I unequivocally rate the work 5 out of 5 stars. Although I encountered two minor grammatical errors upon completing the book, it is clear that the editor, or Ben himself, executed an exceptional job in professionally editing the work. Assigning a rating of three would be unfair, as I thoroughly relished the action-packed encounters involving the two notorious groups. I wholeheartedly recommend this work to readers who have an affinity for action-packed scenes, as there are numerous gripping confrontations within its pages. However, those who do not appreciate the activities of gangsters or criminals should steer clear of this work, as it is replete with criminal plots.
