Review of Nowhere to Hide
In Nowhere to Hide, Jude Austin continues Kalin and Tau's journey following their torturous time in GenTech's human cloning facility. After winning their case in Conclave, a type of legal proceeding against GenTech, Kalin and Tau go their separate ways. With Kalin on the run from Core Central, he must hide on Akkhen which has a ban against clones. Because Tau is a clone and is not considered a human, only an object humans can possess, he is forced to live on Atthiras, a planet without laws allowing him to be free. Adrianne, one of Core Central's leaders, is not done with Kalin and his superhuman abilities. With plans to take over all the worlds, Adrianne sends assassins to hunt Kalin down, starting their search on Atthiras.
Austin has produced another amazing story with their third book in the A Five Worlds series. The author has masterfully created a futuristic fantasy world that is easy to get submerged into. I enjoyed all aspects of this book, from the intricate storylines to all the relatable characters. Everything was detailed, organized, and flowed smoothly, making it easy to follow and understand the characters and events.
I love Austin's ability to create such a variety of complex characters. Kalin was just a teen who got kidnapped and tortured, leaving him with mental issues and an eating disorder. Tau is a clone who doesn't understand his emotions or how to communicate them. Dr. Alan Morgan shows compassion to Kalin and is determined to help him heal. Kurai sympathizes with Tau but has a mysterious background, making his peers weary of him. Then there's the introduction of Diran, a hol assassin working for Core Central, who seems to do his own thing. Is he good, evil, or just plain selfish? The fact that no one can pinpoint whose side he's on or what his motives are makes him even more intriguing. I liked how his sarcasm and straightforwardness added humor to the story. I'm interested to see what surprises Diran has in store.
There is nothing I disliked about this book. I rate this novel a 5 out of 5. This book is professionally well-edited. I only noticed two errors.
Sci-fi and fantasy readers who love to get immersed in a good story would enjoy this book. I do recommend reading the first two novels in this series beforehand. Nowhere to Hide includes ample amounts of action, adventure, mystery, and shocking plot twists. This book is for mature readers. There is a lot of profanity and touches on the topic of rape, but it doesn't explain it in explicit detail.
