Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen Bray receives a letter instructing him to depart the Lands of the Princes for Voulhire and take over his uncle's steel-forging business. He seizes the opportunity eagerly, fueled by years of yearning since becoming aware of the terror inflicted by the sons of the Emperor of Lullabies in his homeland. Without hesitation, he embarks on a voyage armed with the letter. Unbeknownst to him, Voulhire, the sought-after destination, won't offer him a trouble-free life; instead, it demands much from him. Besides mastering the inherited business, he must grasp the dominating malicious and benevolent factors in the land to avoid adverse effects.
In Matthew Tysz's book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, the author introduces us to Voulhire through Galen's exploration, serving as our magnifying lens and tour guide. Let's accompany this young man on his journey into the enigmatic Voulhire, exploring its physical, political, religious, and cultural facets while enjoying the thrilling events.
The author realistically depicts this imaginative country, making readers wish it were real. The naming of characters and the portrayal of the country's religious and cultural features aptly set the plot scene, providing enjoyment and entertainment. I appreciate the author's imaginative accuracy.
From the outset, the book establishes a suspenseful tone with scenes depicting Galen's preparations for departure. In Voulhire, there are malevolent characters like Medorath, whose existence in Cosmos leaves the Voulhirians terrified, and the malicious Riva Rohavi, whose silence sends out ominous signs into Voulhire. The roles of these characters contribute to an engaging reading experience, representing factors that will shake Voulhire under King Wilhelm's rule.
On the literary side, the book is exceptionally well-edited because it's devoid of errors. I find no aspect to dislike, as the entire plot makes sense, leaving me eager for the next installment. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to science fantasy enthusiasts. If you enjoy magical elements in a story, this book is a good fit.
