We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz begins with a dramatic introduction to this unique world filled with magic. From the very beginning the reader knows without a doubt that they have travelled to another land, one utterly different from our own. From the Prologue readers are pulled in. The book opens with a great, if arguably one-sided, battle in a castle; a battle spurred by a thirst for power and propelled by political maneuvering.

From there we meet our protagonist Galen, in chapter 1, as he makes a narrow escape from his homeland to claim his inheritance and his new place in the land of Voulhire. As Galen learns the customs and ways of his adopted land, so does the reader. We the readers are along on this adventure with Galen as he explores Voulhire to make a new life for himself.

Each subsequent chapter of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz follows a different character, introducing us to the far reaches of this world and the people in it, from the king to the rebel Riva Rohavi. In this way, the readers learn more quickly about the world of Voulhire than Galen, which results in foreshadowing of the adventures and troubles that may await Galen in the future.
