Review of Chrome Mountain
Ben Schneider's action-packed novel Chrome Mountain tells the story of a scientist who created an invention known as VV1. Trey was a successful scientist, but his efforts were cut short by the realisation that his new invention was a danger to society. All the work he put into it led to years of depression. Meanwhile, there is another character who forms the second protagonist of the story: a woman running away from her ex-lover. A handful of events occur, and both Trey and Sonya bump into one another. In their hour of need, can they both help each other? To follow this story, you must pick up a copy of this book!
The story begins with Trey's creation of an invention that is designed to make anything invisible, but soon after he has completed it, he realises that it poses a dangerous risk to society, and so he gets rid of it. The Chromes are an evil, scheming gang who have been seeking out Trey's knowledge and have therefore embarked on a quest to capture him. In the meantime, Sonya was on the run from her evil ex-boyfriend, who just happened to be the head of the criminal Screamin' Demons. In their hour of need, running away from gangs who wanted them for different reasons, the paths of both Sonya and Trey crossed, and they decided to help each other escape from the gangs who were after them. For a while, they seem to have a chance, but the gangsters are too clever, and both Trey and Sonya rely on their combined knowledge and powers to help them escape. As Trey struggles to escape, he becomes a prime suspect, accused of being part of the evil Chrome Gang. Will he be able to prove his innocence?
This book is a gripping novel full of action. I really liked the way the author found a way to include some slang in the dialogue. I found this engaging and realistic. This is because we hear slang in everyday life. The drama in this book increased with each chapter. It kept me hooked with every page I turned. The character development is obvious, and I liked that. I particularly liked Sonya's character. Her character was portrayed as a woman fleeing domestic violence at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, but she did not let that stop her from planning her escape from his rebellious gang. She teamed up with Trey, someone she did not know personally, to help him escape the gang after him. This shows her bravery, determination, and courage. The language that is used in the book is simple and clear. This makes the book easily comprehensible.
Although the dialogue is the glue that holds the novel together, at times I had the feeling that there was too much of it. While this was not a total turn-off for me, I have a feeling that the book would have been compelling without the excessive amount of dialogue. Other than that, the book was, in my opinion, well written and free of errors.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is expertly written. It is also flawless, as noted. I found enjoyment throughout the book, and for these reasons, I believe it is fair to say that this book deserves exceptional recognition. I believe that the book will appeal to those who enjoy the genre of drama with an added element of suspense. However, I must point out that there are references to violence in the book, which leads me to the conclusion that it will not appeal to readers under the age of sixteen.
